When I started playing the guitar as a little youngling I was simply playing it trying to emulate what I saw my elder brother do. It fascinated me how my brother would manipulate the guitar to produce different sounds. It looked like magic to me. At the time my hands were too small to hold the chords and all I could do was strum the strings. Little did I know that this were the beginnings of my bright future as a guitarist.
When my brother realized that my interest for the guitar was not going to go away any time soon, he decided to teach me how to play the guitar properly. First of all he bought me a child size guitar that I could play comfortably. This is probably the best thing he ever did for me, he then slowly taught me some of the intricacies of playing the guitar.
I believe that buying the small guitar for me was the best thing my brother did for me because I fell so much in love with it that I believe I would have learnt to play it even if he had not taught me many of the fundamentals in guitar playing.
My interest in playing the guitar continued growing into my teens. At this time I had graduated from my small guitar which I lovingly hung in my bedroom. I now had a shiny blue fancy guitar. I had specifically bought the fancy guitar because now I was increasingly playing before people.
I started by playing to my friends and then the friends started inviting me to play for them during some special functions and they would pay me a small fee. I readily agreed. With the first few earnings that I gathered from my first gigs, I was able to buy an electronic guitar and a guitar combo amplifier that I found would be necessary for playing for larger audiences.
With my new fancy guitar I put more zeal into my guitar practice and I learnt to play even much better. I found out that I was quite good with the electric guitar. I became an instant hit in my local township when I came out with my “cool” electric guitar moves.
My amplifier also gave me a lot of added advantage. I could now play for much larger audiences. My amplifier and my recent rise as a star guitarist gave me a lot of confidence and I decided to venture further in my adventures as a guitarist.
During this time I was able to meet up with a music producer who heard me perform at a small gig and he was immediately impressed. He however told me that my playing still needed more refinement. I could not believe what he was saying, at the time I thought I was playing the best guitar music ever.
I however humbled myself and agreed to go under his tutelage. True to his word, I was able to realize another whole new world in guitar playing. I became so refined that I could only be satisfied with guitar sound amplified by tube amps. I became a guitar maestro.
